Raley's and Bel Air Ballots Impounded Pending Grievances
Although we were scheduled to count the votes for the tentative agreement today - with the assistance of several members employed by Raley’s and Bel Air, we have now impounded the ballots pending the resolution of outstanding grievances. The grievances are based on the premature implementation of the terms of the tentative agreement and violation of the strike settlement agreement.

Materials have been mailed to our members providing important information about our new tentative agreement with Safeway.
In addition to the four-page document you are now holding, which contains highlights and defeated proposals, you will find the following items:
- the complete text of the Memorandum of Agreement;
- the 2013 UEBT Agreement concerning health benefits;
- “Frequently Asked Questions” (FAQs) concerning the health benefits package;
- your secret ballot;
- an envelope for ensuring the privacy of your ballot;
- a second envelope, postage-paid and addressed to UFCW 8, for mailing your ballot; and
- an instruction sheet for completing and mailing your ballot.
After reviewing all of the materials, please mark your ballot and send it to UFCW 8’s offices immediately.
The leadership and staff of UFCW 8-Golden State urges your YES vote for this agreement. UFCW Locals 5 and 648 are also recommending the agreement to their memberships.
This tentative agreementculminates 15 months of extremely difficult and complex negotiations with Safeway.

They include the Memorandum of Agreement between Raley’s and UFCW 8-Golden State, as well as a Stabilization Agreement outlining the course for Raley’s recovery of its competitive standing in the supermarket industry.
Together, they comprise a tentative contract deserving of your enthusiastic ratification.
